Editorial standards

How we work.

The principles behind every ARKTROV story. They describe our commitment and the way we work — not an external certification.

  1. 01

    Research comes first

Every story is built on research. We work from scientific publications, official records, archives, reputable reporting and expert material — and where possible we list our key sources alongside the story.

  2. 02

    Facts, hypotheses and open questions

We distinguish clearly between what is established, what is a scientific hypothesis or interpretation, and what remains unknown. Speculation is never presented as fact.

  3. 03

Uncertainty is part of the story

Science evolves. When findings are preliminary, disputed or based on limited data, we say so — in the narration and, where relevant, in the description.

  4. 04

    Mystery, responsibly

We love open questions. But an unexplained event is not evidence for an extraordinary explanation. We present the competing explanations fairly and explain how strong the evidence for each actually is.

  5. 05

    True crime with respect

We tell real cases from documented information, with restraint and respect for victims, their families and everyone affected. We avoid sensational depictions of violence, and we do not speculate about the guilt of individuals beyond what the record supports.

  6. 06

    Transparent visuals

Our videos rely heavily on visual storytelling. Illustrations, animations, artistic reconstructions and AI-assisted imagery are used to visualise ideas — not to fake evidence. Where a visual could be mistaken for authentic footage or a real photograph, we make clear that it is a reconstruction or illustration.

  7. 07

    Corrections

We make mistakes, and we fix them. When we find or are told about a substantive error, we review it and correct it in a transparent way — for example in the video description, a pinned comment or on the story page.

  8. 08

    Rights and attribution

We respect the work of others. If you are a rights holder and believe we have used your material incorrectly, please contact us and we will review it promptly.
